2nd.: Into the Lord’s Ears

There had been many generations since the time of Kings David and Solomon.
Many 'bad' kings, and some good kings had come and gone.
Now, King Hezekiah, reigned over Jerusalem.
King Sennacherib of Assyria was invading.
Unfortunately, King Hezekiah did not have an army like what King David had.
King Hezekiah could only pray.

King Sennacherib sent emissaries to Hezekiah.
They demanded Hezekiah’s surrender (see 2nd Kings 19:8-13).
King Hezekiah went into the Lord’s house.
He took with him, King Sennacherib's terms of surrender.
King Hezekiah told the Lord about Sennacherib’s boasts that the God of Judah was a false god (2nd Kings 19:12, 16).
Lastly, King Hezekiah asked God to save Jerusalem so that the world may know that the Lord is God (2nd Kings 19:19).

God answered Hezekiah (2nd Kings 20:20),
“That which you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.”
The Lord answered Sennacherib, (v20-28, in particular v 28).
“Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult is come up into mine ears,
therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will
turn thee back by the way which thou came.”
2nd. Kings 19:35-37 tells how God supernaturally destroyed the Assyrian army and Sennacherib’ ensuing withdrawal.

It is very possible that the Lord initially ignored Sennacherib’s bragging.
However, because King Hezekiah lifted Sennacherib’s bragging into the Lord’s ears, the Lord did something about it.

Let us also be quick to lift situations to the Lord.
