26th.: Make Time for Jesus
Jesus tells us that not all religious Christians will get into heaven.
Specifically, he tells us.
“Not everyone that says unto me, “Lord, Lord” shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that does the will of my Father, which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day,
“Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name, and in thy name have cast out devils,
and in thy name done many wonderful works. And then I will profess until them,
I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)
1. Cast out devils.
2. Acts of kindness such as:
3. Soup kitchens (Mt 25:35)
4. Clothe the naked (Mt 25:36)
5. Visit the sick and those in prison (Mt. 25:36),
etcetera.
The above are excellent things to do.
But these works weren't the will of God per-se.
What then is the 'work of God.'
Jesus tells us, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. (St. John 6:29).
He wants us to believe what he says. He wants us to get to know him, as we see in:
“I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23).
Doing all the above good works will become of no use to us,
if we don't get to know Jesus on a one-on-one basis with him.
“Today if you will hear his voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness,” (Psalm 95:7b-95:8, referring to Numbers chapter 14)
