Many posit the dispute between
Six Day Creation vs Millions of Years Old Earth
in terms of
RELIGION vs SCIENCE
or
FAITH/BELIEF vs REASON.
We need to look at this for a moment.
A BELIEF is what we accept as true.
FAITH can be defined variously as:
a. The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
b. A confidence or trust in a person, thing, or concept.
REASON is the ability to think in a logical orderly fashion.
Computer scientist have a saying, "Garbage In, Garbage Out."
They know that if they input false data into their computer apps, the resulting output will be meaningless.
Reason has to start from the truth.
More specifically, Reason has to start from what it thinks is true.
Faith in mistaken assumptions (garbage in) will lead Reason to incorrect conclusions (garbage out).
Again, Reason has to start from a belief.
The theology that what the Bible says is true
vs
The theology that God does not exist (atheism), or is at best - irrelevant.

a. The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
b. A confidence or trust in a person, thing, or concept.
REASON is the ability to think in a logical orderly fashion.
We must remember that Reason has to start from the truth,
otherwise the end results of Reason is gibberish.
To take an example, computer scientists write programs in a logical orderly fashion.
So then, the dispute about the age of the Earth,
as being between FAITH vs REASON,
is really a dispute between two theologies (studies of God):
The theology that what the Bible says is true
vs
The theology that God does not exist (atheism), or is at best - irrelevant.
