A Matter of Interpretation
Among those who apply the label 'Christian' to themselves,
the main disagreement between the ‘Six Day’ vs ‘Millions of Years’
Creation controversy seems to be how to interpret the Bible.
Is Genesis chapters 1-3 literal, or allegorical?
Both sides claim that they have the correct interpretation of Scripture.
In truth, there is only one correct way to interpret Genesis, as it is written,
("Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation,
for the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God
spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2nd. Peter 1:20-21)
I must check my own interpretation, because 2nd Corinthians 5:10 warns me,
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each
one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”
God will hold me accountable for teaching false doctrine.
I have considered two cases.
In both cases, my time on Earth is up, and I am giving account to God.
Scenario One:
I had taught that Six-Day Creation was correct,
but Millions of Years was actually correct.
God asks me, "Why did you teach Six-Day?"
I answer, “The plainest interpretation of Genesis is that you did it in six earth days.”The ‘fault’ (in a manner of speaking) is with God, for not clearly explaining
that it took him millions of years (or at least a really long time) to create the universe.
Scenario Two:
I had taught that Millions of Years was correct,
but Six-Day was actually correct.
God asks me. "Why did you teach Millions of Years?"
I answer, “Because the leading scientists of the day taught that.”God responds, "But they were my enemies’."
