9th.: Psalm 59, Part 3, For Their Pride
David continued to address of his enemies.
He asked God:
“For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride,
and for cursing and lying, which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them that they may not be.
And let them know that God rules in Jacob, unto the ends of the earth. Selah.” (Ps. 59:12-13).
People can get extremely proud about their abilities, accomplishments, and status.
They will boast about what he/she/they will do. David asked God to put a stop to his enemies.
Not to literally kill them (see Ps. 59:11) - but eat-up their power, and make them nobodies.
David’s reasons were:
1) Because of their boasting
2) To let them know that God really does control the earth - and them.
Most of us acknowledge that God rules supreme. Boasting in God pleases God.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” (Pr. 9:10)
