8th.: Gideon’s Commissioning
In Judg. 6:14, the Lord commissioned Gideon with:
“Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have not I sent thee?”
Gideon was not so sure. His insecurities came out,
“Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? My family is poor in Manasseh, and I am least in my father’s house.” (Judg. 6:15).
i.e. Gideon pointed out:
1) Lack of monetary resources (poor in Manasseh)
2) Lack of societal influence (least in my father’s house)
The Lord reminded Gideon,
“Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.” (Judg. 6:16).
Remind the Lord of our human limitations.
But the Lord often chooses the weak to show-case Himself.
God chose Gideon because of the two qualities that Gideon stated.
Plus the Lord saw that Gideon would be faithful to do his assigned job.
Gideon had been threshing the wheat by the winepress, so that the Midianites would not see him.
If the Midianites found him, they might/would kill him, and steal/burn the wheat in the process.
And in spite of the danger, Gideon did his job.
Likewise, would we be faithful to carry out any tasks the Lord may give us?
“My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2nd Cor. 12:9b)
