8th.: Abram, the First Conversations
At first, God did most of the talking.
Abraham did the listening.
For example:
1. Gen. 12:1-6 God told Abram to move, and Abram moved.
2. Gen. 12:7, the Lord Abram that he had arrived at the land of his new inheritance. Abram responded by building an altar.
3. Gen. 12:8, Abram moved a little ways away from the first altar, and built a second altar.
At this second altar, Abram “called upon the name of the Lord”.
God did not verbally respond to Abram, but then neither did God leave Abram unprotected.
After a brief trip to Egypt, Abram returned to the Promised Land, to the first altar that he had made (Gen. 12:10-13:4).
There Abram again called upon God.
God did not appear to Abram at this second calling upon the Lord.
However, just because God did not respond to Abram's call, God had not forgotten Abram.
In fact, God did not appear to Abram, until after Abram and Lot went their separate ways (Gen. 13:14-18).
Here again, God did all the talking, and Abram’s verbal response, if any, was not recorded.
Even if we don’t hear God’s voice, or see life ‘going our way’, it does not mean that He has left us.
“Whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom. 10:13)
