My Words Matter
My Words Matter
One day, I saw someone wearing a sweatshirt with the stenciled words,
“My Words Matter.”
My first thought was,
“Who does this guy think he is?” in the negative way.
I then thought, "Was he insecure?"
But I did not leave off thinking. This topic is too important.
Four or Five thoughts later, I remembered Matthew 12:36***,
“But I [Jesus] say unto you, ‘That every idle word that men shall speak,
they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement.’”
Our words do matter, and in ways that we may or may not anticipate.
Philippian 4:6 says to, “let your requests be made known to God.”
Hebrews 4:16 further teaches, “let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace [i.e. into God’s presence].
Yet, Ecclesiastes 5:2 cautions,
“Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty
to utter anything before God:
for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth:
therefore, let thy word be few.”
Our take away is this:
Bring our requests boldly to God - yet a little bit of circumspection is not a bad thing.
****It is good to know Scripture to help us think through thought-provoking statements.
Ecclesiastes 5:6a, “Let not your mouth lead you into sin,”
