6th.: The Lord’s Prayer, Temptation

The final lines of the Lord's prayer are:

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen.”

(Matt. 6:11-13). After we have
Given God his due respect, and
Asked for physical needs,

Jesus instructs us to ask for the protection of our soul and body.
Earlier in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warned us, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” (Matt. 5:11). Persecution from others, for the name of Jesus, can severely test a person’s resolve to stay faithful to Jesus.
With “Lead us not into temptation.” we request God to keep us away from the most extreme situations, which we cannot handle.
We are to daily ask God to protect us from those situations that would overwhelm us.

Return to Home
“There has no temptation taken you, but such as is common to man. But God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1st Cor. 10:13)
