6th.: An Intro to David’s Prayers
Sometime ago, the prophet Samuel had told King Saul,
“The Lord has sought a man after his own heart,
and the Lord has commanded him to be captain over his people.” (1st Sam. 14b).
God planned to replace Saul with a ‘man after his own heart’.
What does it mean, “A man after His own heart?”
‘A man after God’s own heart’ is a man who wants to know God well, like as a close friend.
He does so by spending time with Him.
David, the eighth son of Jesse, was such a man.
Even before being inaugurated as king, David penned several prayers/poems, which were included in the Psalms.
David's prayers give glimpses into how he viewed God.
These glimpses help us to know what makes a man, 'after God's heart',
as opposed to simply being religious.
Over the next several days, we shall look at some of these prayers.
“… to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.” (Isa. 66:2b)
