5th.: Jeremiah’s Purpose
God looks for a single person, who will execute righteous judgement.
“Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,
and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places, thereof,
if ye can find a man,
if there be any, that executes judgment
that seeks the truth,
and I will pardon it.
(Jer. 5:1-2).
But God couldn't find anyone.
Jeremiah agreed with God,
“Lord, are not thine eyes upon the truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved,
thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction.
They have made their faces harder than a rock, they have refused to return.” (Jer. 5:3).
There was not a single person who did what is right.
Jeremiah wanted so bad to go to Israel.
But he realized that they have totally pushed God away.
The Israelites of Jeremiah's day had totally broken any semblance of being controllable (see Jer. 5:5b).
There was no use in going.
When the sins of a people are very great, we must have greater determination,
as we pray, to move God to make a change in the people.
“Let us not be weary in well doing. For in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Gal. 6:9)
