4th.: Where Shall I Go Next?
After rescuing his wives, David learned that King Saul had died (2nd Sam. 1:4).
David mourned for King Saul, and King Saul’s son, Jonathan (2nd Sam. 1:17-27).
David then turned his attention to ask the Lord (2nd Sam. 2:1).
David: “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?”
The Lord: “Go up.”
David: “Where shall I go up?”
The Lord “Unto Hebron.”
David could easily have chosen any city of Judah to live in.
Yet, David had learned how good the Lord’s advice is.
David knew that the Lord’s view on events is so much better than our views.
Plus, friends often ask each other advice about the next stage in their lives.
Therefore, when the Lord tersely answered, “Go up” to his first question,
David pressed the Lord for a specific city. Without fanfare or rebuke, the Lord answered “Unto Hebron”.
We can learn from David’s example, by presenting each next step for our lives to the Lord, including any alternatives we may have.
“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger. But they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.” (Ps. 34:10)
