4th.: The Lord’s Prayer, Bread

After acknowledging God's sovereignty,
Jesus then tells us to ask for our basic needs:

In the Lord's prayer it is stated as:
Give us this day our daily bread.

(Matthew 6:11).

One of those needs is food. America's abundance of grocery stores, food stamps, soup kitchens,
and the generosity of enough passer-byers, may cause us to forget this.
Many say the food comes from farmers, and not God. So they won't bother asking God for food.

Nevertheless, Jesus instructed us to ask.
But this prayer need not be limited to physical food.

Jesus once spoke of himself, “I am that bread of life.” (John 6:48).
The request, ‘Give us this day our daily bread,’ could be taken as ‘in addition to physical food for our bodies, give us the daily portion of ‘you’ that we need’.

Worded another way, this request becomes, ‘please give us the food that we need for our souls.’
Furthermore, we must ask for this daily portion, every single day. To ask daily, means we must pray daily.
