3rd.: Samuel’s Lamentation for Saul

Saul had failed to obey God.

“And it grieved Samuel, and he cried unto the Lord all night.” (1st Sam. 15:15c).
Samuel had grown fond of Saul.

When Samuel first met Saul, Saul was a tall, handsome, humble (“little in thine own sight” (1st Sam. 15:17)) man.
But Saul's kingship made him head-strong.
Saul’s disobedience frustrated Samuel.
Samuel could not sleep anymore.
All he could do was vent to the Lord.

Furthermore, Samuel did not finish mourning for Saul that night.
1st Sam. 15:35 tells us that Samuel mourned for Saul, even after rebuking him for disobedience.

When feelings of frustrations for the foolish actions of loved ones come upon us,
take them to the Lord; if need be, all night long, night after night.

“I am weary with my groaning. All the night, make I my bed to swim. I water my couch with my tears.” (Ps. 6:6)
