31st.: Saul’s Request for Pardon
King Saul was still in trouble. (see 1st Sam. 15).
He did not want to lose the kingdom.
Have you noticed how some people will say anything, so that they don't lose out.
Saul did,
“Now, therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.” (1st Sam. 15:25).
Samuel (and the Lord) saw right through Saul.
Samuel reproved Saul,
“I will not return with thee, for thou has rejected the word of the Lord,
and the Lord has rejected thee from being king over Israel.” (1st Sam. 15:26).
“And as Samuel turned to go away, he [Saul] laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.” (1st Sam. 15:27).
Saul tried to physically restrain Samuel, but only succeeded in tearing Samuel’s clothing.
Samuel used this as an object lesson,
“The Lord has rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day,
and has given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou.” (1st Sam. 15:28).
We cannot lie to God; He sees right through any deception.
When we come to God, we must be honest with Him.
Return to Home“… he shall come to his sanctuary to pray, but he shall not prevail.” (Isa. 16:12b)
