Sometimes, we simply need to answer God's questions.
We see this in a conversation between God and Jeremiah.
Conversation 1
God, “What seest thou?”
Jeremiah, “I see a rod of an almond tree.”
God, “Thou hast well seen, for I will hasten my word to perform it.” (Jermiah 1:11-14)
Conversation 2
God, “What seest thou?”
Jeremiah, “I see a seething pot, and the face thereof is toward the north.”
God, “Out of the north, an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.”
Conversation 3
Jeremiah, " two baskets …. One basket had very good figs, the figs that are ripe.
And the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
God, ‘What seest thou?’” (Jer. 24:3-1-3a).
Jeremiah, “Figs, the good figs, very good, and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.” (Jer. 24:3b)
Like Jeremiah, we need to answer so that God 'sees' that we are paying attention to him.
Perhaps more accurate, verbally answering really means that we are listening.
“Speak, for thy servant hears.” (1st Sam. 3:10a)
