29th.: Spoiled Brats
After leaving Hormah, the people complained - again:
“Wherefore have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness?
For there is no bread, neither is there any water.
And our soul loathes this light bread [manna].” (Num. 21:5).
First, they continued to forget about the harshness of their Egyptian taskmasters.
Second, they asserted that God was sadistic, only wanting to bring them out of Egypt to hurt them.
Third, they complained about not having regular bread.
Fourth, they had been in two other places, where there was no water, yet God provided water out of a rock (Ex. 17:1-9, Num. 20:1-11).
Fifth, they were being as picky, spoiled brats in loathing the manna.
They demanded that God should cater to their whims.
For this reason, “the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, and much people of Israel died.” (Num. 21:6).
Let us remember the good things the Lord gives us, when we approach to God.
“I will remember the works of the Lord. Surely, I will remember thy wonders of old.” (Ps. 77:11)
