29th.: Caleb, ‘Please’

After conquering numerous cities in the Promised Land,
the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal.

In particular, Caleb asked Joshua a favor,

“Thou knows the thing that the Lord said unto Moses, the man of God, concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. …
My brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God.
And Moses sware, ‘Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s forever,
because thou has wholly followed the Lord my God.’ And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive. ...
I am this day fourscore and five (85) years old. … As my strength was then [at 45], even so is my strength now. …
Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day.” (Josh. 14:6-12a).

Caleb reminded Joshua of the promise that the Lord
had made to Caleb, namely, whatever land he walked upon,
because he had wholly followed the Lord (Deut. 1:36)
Caleb also reinforced this point with the fact that Caleb
was as strong at 85 as he was at 45, implying that the
Lord supported Caleb. Joshua gave him Hebron (see Josh. 14:13).
Likewise, we too can recite any specific promises God makes to us.
