26th.: I Don’t Want to Hear It
In Jer. 36:1-5 God told Jeremiah to record all the prophesies that he had been given.
Jeremiah then had the scroll read to the people in the house of the Lord (Jer. 36:6).
This stunned the people.
The religious leaders sent the scroll all the way up to King Jehoikim, of Judah (Jer. 36:22).
The king was not impressed.
After hearing some of the scroll read to him, the king threw the scroll into the fireplace (Jer. 36:23).
He was telling God, “Get out of my life, I don’t want to hear it.”
God was not impressed.
God then spake against king Jehoiakim,
“He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David. And his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
And I will punish him, and his seed, and his servants for their iniquity.” (Jer. 36:30b-31a).
Our actions can be just as effective as our words, in sending a message to God.
Let us be mindful what non-verbal messages we send God.
“Behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach, they have no delight in it.” (Jer. 6:10c)
