26th.: Get God’s Assurance

Many times, David asked the Lord for very specific counsel.
Once, while David fled from King Saul,
David heard that the Philistines were attacking the Israelite city called Keilah.
David specifically asked God,
“Shall I go and smite these Philistines?” (1st Sam. 23:2a).

God reassured David, “Go and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.” (1st Sam. 23:2b).

However, David's followers were not reassured,
“Behold, we be afraid here in Judah. How much more, then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?” (1st Sam. 23:3).
The men with Saul were fellow Israelites to David’s men.
The Philistines were outright enemies.
If the Philistines captured David’s men, the Philistines might then abuse them.
Hence, David’s men were hesitant.
Therefore, David again went to the Lord.
The Lord answered, “Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistine’s into your hand.” (1st Sam. 23:4b).
With that assurance, David and his men, did their part in whupping the Philistines (see 1st Sam. 23:5).

Likewise, we can go to God to verify His assurances.

Return to Home
“Be strong and of a good courage. Fear not, nor be afraid of them, for the Lord thy God, he it is that does go with thee. He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Deut. 31:6)
