25th.: Ruth

Deut. 23:3-4a gives us a sobering admonition:
“An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord,
even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord forever,
because they [the Ammonite/Moab ancestors] met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt.”

The book of Ruth tells how God granted the Moabite woman, Ruth, an exception.
She became a great grand-mother to King David, in spite of the above law.
No specific prayers were recorded in this book.
Yet we see how God took care of Ruth.

The core part for why can be found in Ruth 1:16, “And Ruth said, ‘Intreat me not to leave thee,
or to return from following after thee. For where thou goes, I will go, and where thou lodges, I will lodge.
Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.’”

Ruth’s sister-in-law had already gone back unto her own people - and unto her own gods (Ruth 1:15).
But Ruth wanted to make the Jewish God her God.
In a manner of speaking, Ruth came to God, and God received her.
If we will only go to God, through Jesus, He will receive us.
We can then begin a rapport with the Creator God.
