25th.: Psalm 119, Thy Word, Hope

In Psalm 119, David praised God for his nourishing words.

“Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou has caused me to hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction, for thy word has quickened me.” (Ps. 119:49-50).

God's word gave many promises.
They gave David something to look forward to.
It strengthened him.
It gave him hope.
This was just a 'wishful' thinking type of hope.
Rather it is the older definition of hope, which is more expectant of receiving something.
It made him alive.

David also asked for,
“Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word.
So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproaches me, for I trust in thy word.” (Ps. 119:41-42).
When David’s enemies could see God siding with David, then David would have more ammunition to
silence the taunts of the enemy. David knew that he could seek the Lord’s special favors, because of what he
learned from the Bible. Having access to these unmerited favors can reassure, and strengthen, one’s soul.

Psalm 119 is filled with many more reasons why David loved God’s word. If we will choose to do so,
we too can share David’s longing for, and learning from, God’s word, as men and women seeking after God’s own heart.
