25th.: Promises
Christmas Day.
One of the Christmas Day stories is found in Luke 2:25-26,
"And behold there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon;
and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation
of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death
before he had seen the Lord's Christ."
Here was a old man waiting for God to work.
He was waiting for God to comfort the people of Israel
(presumably from Roman oppression).
Simeon sought God, through prayer, day and/or night.
Hebrews 11:6 encourages us,
"But without faith, it is impossible to please him;
for he that comes to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Simeon believed that God existed.
He believed that God would do something.
And God rewarded him.
God gave him advanced notice that he would meet the consolation of God.
Likewise, we can seek diligently seek God through prayer.
IF we do, Scripture promises that God will reward us too.
"For mine eyes have seen thy salvation." (Luke 2:30)
