25th.: Finding Isaac’s wife, part 2
Yesterday, we began by the story of Abraham sending his eldest servant to find Isaac a wife. (Gen. 24: 1-14)
The servant had to go to the distant city of Nahor, to Abraham's relatives.
Had much time to thinking about how to do his task.
As he approached Navhor, he made a very detailed request to God to point out Isaac's bride (Gen. 24:12-14).
The servant used his understanding of culture to shape his prayers.
(e.g. Why did the servant ask to meet the girl directly, and not first meet the dad?)
Was the servant simply ‘progressive’ in his thoughts, or did he understand something else?
Likewise, there is a place for us to assess our situation. We can then thoughtfully frame our requests to God.
“… the prudent man looks well to his going.” (Pr. 14:15b)
