24th.: Saul's Half Way Prayers
“... Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal,” (1st Sam. 13:15a).
Samuel never did tell Saul what to do about the Philistines massing at Michmash.
God had left Saul to himself. (For flagrantly disobeying God about the burnt offering (see 1st Sam. 13:8-13))
Saul then moved his army to the uttermost part of Gibeah, but otherwise did nothing (1st Sam. 14:2).
A short time later, Saul’s son, Jonathan, took the initiative.
He attacked the Philistines, causing an uproar.
The noise of this commotion reached Saul’s camp.
When Saul heard the noise, he took stock of who was in camp.
When he found that his son was missing, he asked that the ark of God be brought to him
so that he could ask the Lord.
With the noise levels in the Philistines increasing,
Saul withdrew his request for asking the Lord (1st Sam.14:4-19).
Saul took this long to re-ask the Lord, about what to do, but never really did.
Saul kept 'asking' in a half-way / not really way.
“The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing. But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.” (Pr. 13:4)
