24th.: Psalm 8, Pondering Man’s Honor

David next contemplated the honor that God gave mankind.

“Thou made him to have dominion over the works of thy hands.
Thou has put all things under his feet.
All sheep and oxen, yea, the beasts of the field.
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea,
and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas.” (Ps. 8:6-8).

David unashamedly remembers when God said,

“And God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness,
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,
and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:26).

God is powerful.
And he values us, because He made us in His image
David closes out this Psalm with,

“O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth.” (Ps. 8:9).

God’s excellency is more than just raw power, it includes His goodness to us.

David learned that he could turn to God. And when he turned to God,
David then experientially discovered God’s combination of might and goodness.
