23rd.: Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God
As we learned yesterday, Jesus was preaching on life or death subjects, when someone blurted out,
“Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.” (Luke 12:13b).
Jesus said to him to go to the established court system.
Jesus then took this opportunity to discuss a different topic,
“Take head, and beware of covetousness, for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. …
Seek ye the kingdom God, and all these things [the physical items needed for life] shall be added unto you. …
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”(Luke 12:15, 31, 34).
Take to the Lord any concern that we have, for it is written, “Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you.” (1st. Pet. 5:7).
(such as a negligent executor of a parent’s will)
If we treasure wealth, experiences, amusement/pleasure etc.,
keep in mind that all these things will eventually be taken from us (see Isaiah 65:17).
However, treasuring the eternal destiny of souls being added to the kingdom of God
is something that God wants, for he doesn't want, per-se, that any should be punished for eternity.
Thinking in these terms will then reshape our prayers, both in terms of allotted time, and object of prayer.

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matt. 12:34b)
