22nd.: Psalm 8, Pondering God’s Splendor

Many times, David asked God for help.

Psalm 8 was a little different.
Here, David focuses on God’s splendor and personness.

The mere presence of celebrities will leave some people star-struck.
God’s power left David star-struck,
“O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Who has set thy glory above the heavens?” (Ps. 8:1).

David declared that the qualities that make God so excellent (i.e. His glory)
are so much grander than the immensity of the star-filled heavens.
David continued to praise God, with,

“Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings, has thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger.” (Ps. 8:2).

God can take the weak things of the world, and turn them into strength,
so that self-reliant, capable, and proud, people may see that they really are as the dust of the earth, when compared to God’s abilities.
David’s hero-worship of God’s greatness showed that David’s heart was completely smitten by God.
