21st.: Psalm 26, Bless the Lord, O my soul
Continuing from the previous day.
David had other motives for washing his hand in innocency,
“That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.” (Ps. 26:7).
David wanted to tell everyone about God.
David also loved being in the atmosphere which surrounds God,
“I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honor dwells.” (Ps. 26:8).
David did request, “Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men.
In whose hand is mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes.
But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity. Redeem me, and be merciful unto me.” (Ps. 26:11).
It is like he meant, ‘My rightful place is with those sinners, but please don’t group me with them. I want to do right; be nice to me.’
David then finished with, “My foot stands in an even place. In the congregation will I bless the Lord.” (Ps. 26:12).
David knew that when he was ‘with the Lord’, he was safe.
For all the above reasons, he blessed the Lord, giving thanks and adoration to the Lord.
This seeking the Lord, and wanting to be around Him, is characteristic of David.
It is characteristic of one who ‘seeks after God’s heart’.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” (Ps. 103:1)
