20th.: God’s Promises
Deut. 26:15 reads,
“Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel,
and the land which thou has given us, as thou sware unto our fathers, a land that flows with milk and honey.”
So begins the second part of Moses' prescribed prayer.
The final part asks God to notice his people Israel,
and to give to them bountifully, in order to keep the promises.
Likewise, we can ask God to keep His promises to us.
God did not promise the New Testament Christian great material wealth.
But He did promise us many things, for example,
1. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:19.
2. “I will send the … Spirit of Truth, [who] will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:7-13a).
3. “I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matt. 28:20).
By studying these promises, it shows God that His word is important to us, and that we love Him.
It therefore behooves us to study God’s word to learn what promises He has made.
We can then discuss with God a promise that may apply to a particular situation we are going through.
“For all the promises of God in him [Jesus] are yea.” (2nd Cor. 1:20a)
