1st.: Delayed Fulfillment of Promise
Samuel told Saul that God will strip him of the kingdom of Israel, and give it to “a man after his own heart.” (1st Samuel 13:14)
Nevertheless, ten years passed and Saul was still in office.
Saul saw David's rise from obscurity.
Saul saw the Lord help David (1st Sam. 19:10, 1st Sam. 24:1-22. 1st Sam. 26:1-17).
Saul had time to repent of (turn away from) his stubbornness.
But he did not.
The seance was the last straw (see Aug. 30th-31st.).
In this seance, Samuel's soul came out of where ever he was, and proclaimed to Saul,
“Because thou obeyed not the voice of the Lord, nor executed his fierce wrath upon Amalek,
therefore has the Lord done this thing unto thee this day.
Moreover, the Lord will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines.
And tomorrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me.” (1st Sam. 28:18-19).
Saul's time was up.
Let us keep in mind what God tells us, whether from the word, or directly to us,
so that we are ready.
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily,
therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.” (Eccl. 8:11)
