18th.: The Ziphites, part 2

David addressed his next comments to the people,

“Behold, God is mine helper. The Lord is with them that uphold my soul.” (Ps. 54:4).

David may have remembered how God allowed his friend,
and strong supporter, Jonathon, to visit him in the wilderness of Ziph.
Yet, ironically, Jonathon’s dad, King Saul, could not.

David then turned the focus of his prayer back to God with,
“He shall reward evil unto mine enemies; cut them off in thy truth.” (Ps. 54:5).

The word ‘truth’ here is used in the archaic sense of being a true, i.e. committed and faithful friend.
David’s request then became, ‘God stop them, because you are my committed friend.’
It is comforting to have a history of God helping us, knowing that we can get more help from Him, because He is committed to us.
There is no time like the present to start a history of mutual commitment with God.

Return to Home
“Truly my soul waits upon God. From him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation;
he is my defense. I shall not be greatly moved.” (Ps. 62:1-2)
