17th.: A Prescribed National Prayer

Moses gave the Israelites the following prayer.

The prayer goes as follows,
“A Syrian ready to perish was my father. And he went to down into Egypt to sojourn there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty and populous. And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage. And when we cried unto the Lord God of our fathers, the Lord heard our voice, and looked upon our afflictions. … And the Lord brought us forth out of Egypt, … brought us into this place. And now behold, I have brought the firstfruits, which thou, O Lord, has given me.” (Deut. 26:5-10).
We might not be able to use this specific prayer.
However, we can substitute our country’s history, where appropriate.
For example, Americans can thank God for how he separated us from England,
and for giving the Founding Fathers wisdom to set up a government
that would protect the 'inalienable rights endowed by the Creator' (see Declaration of Independence).
Likewise, Christian citizens from other nations can develop equivalent prayers pertinent to their own country.
“Now all these things happened unto them for examples, and they are written for our admonition.” (1st Cor. 10:11)
