14th.: Jeremiah’s Intercession, part 2
Jeremiah's outline for his prayer is shown below (see Jer. 14:19-22):
1) Asked God if He hated Israel.
2) Appealed to God’s mercy for His people.
3) Confessed sins (i.e. broken national promises).
4) Appealed to God’s innate glory. I am reminded of when Moses asked to see God’s glory,
and God responded by mentioning His goodness, and His mercy (Exodus 33:18-19).
God’s glory starts at goodness and mercy, but goes beyond these traits.
Presumably, it is to this that Jeremiah appealed.
5) Appealed to God to keep his promises.
6) The truth is, the nation of Judah has no one else to turn to; only God is real; the other gods are made-up.
7) Therefore, he will wait for God to respond (i.e. commit to reuniting with God (stop forsaking Him)).
Jeremiah confessed Judah’s sin in a general way. But his prayers did not fully acknowledge
the warnings of punishment that God had given in Deut. 11: and Deut. 28:20.
Jeremiah took it upon himself to move God for the whole nation.
Unfortunately, sometimes the situation is far worse than what one person’s prayers can cover.
In those cases, we need to seek out others who will pray with us.
Return to Home“That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask,
it shall be done for them of my Father, which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19)
