14th.: It is Good to Ask
Not all events in the Bible are uplifting.
Some can be down right bummers
2nd Samuel chapter 21 gives once such bummer.
“Then there was a famine in the days of David, three years, year after year; and David inquired of the Lord.
After three years, King David asked the Lord, 'Why?'
And the Lord answered, ‘It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.’” (2nd Sam. 21:1).
King David could now give a solution.
David asked the Gibeonites what it would take to set things right. (2nd Sam. 21:2-3).
It would be good if our civic leaders asked the Lord about why our nation has so many natural disasters.
Likewise, we individuals can take difficult situations to the Lord to see the reason for any setbacks besetting us.
Even if a difficulty hits us, it does not necessarily mean that we are doing anything wrong. The point is: ‘Ask the Lord’.
“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord they God to observe to do all his commandments …, that all these curses shall come upon thee.” (Deut. 28:15)
