14th.: Gideon: After the Days of Glory
Gideon judged Israel for forty years. (Judg. 8:28).
For whatever reason, he made a golden ephod (see Judg. 8:27).
Perhaps to inquire of the Lord. Perhaps as a reminder.
Unfortunately, the Israelites worship the ephod and not God (Judg. 8:27).
Nevertheless, Gideon remained faithful to the Lord per the revealed Jewish religious laws.
However, it is not recorded that he ‘sought the Lord’ anymore.
With no more threatening armies, the urgency to diligently seek the Lord faded.
Gideon went on with his life. He drifted away from that closeness of being with the Lord
that he had when opposing the Moabites.
Perhaps he did not realize that God would have liked for Gideon to seek Him on a daily basis.
It is easy for us to ‘drift from the Lord’ as we get busy with our lives.
True, we may continue to go to church, and maybe even midweek bible studies.
But the time of fellowship with God Himself wanes.
Return back to seeking God on a daily basis. Now is a good time to start.
“Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God.” (1st Chr. 22:19a)
