14th.: Beware that Thou Forget not the Lord

Sometimes, God gives sobering words. For example:

“When thou has eaten, and art full, then thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land,
which he has given thee.
Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments. …
Lest when thou has eaten and art full, and has built goodly houses …,
and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy gold is multiplied,
and all that thou has is multiplied, then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God. …
And thou say in thine heart, ‘My power and the might of mine hand has gotten me this wealth.’
But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God, for it is he that gives thee power to get wealth.” (Deut. 8:10-18a).
This is not a bona-fide prayer.

The material goods of life can deceive us.
Pride can seduce us
It is easy to drift.
And we forget to pray.
When we have drifted from the Lord, we need to ask,
“Do we love God more, or do we love things more?”
Then return to him, and get back right with him.

Return to Home
“And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4:19)
