13th.: Jeremiah’s Intercession, Part I

God, through Moses, had once warned the nation of Israel:

“The Lord shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou sets thine hand unto for to do,
until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly, because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou has forsaken me." (Deut. 28:20).

Centuries later, God reminded Jeremiah of these severe warnings (Jer. 14:15-16).

The severity of these warnings unnerved Jeremiah.
Jeremiah proceeded to intercede for Israel.

Specifically Jeremiah asked for:
1. Have thou utterly rejected Judah?
2. Has thy soul loathed Zion?
3. Why have thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us?
4. We looked for peace, and there is no good, and
5. for the time of healing, and behold trouble.
6. We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against thee.
7. Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake.
8. Do not disgrace the throne of thy glory.
9. Remember, break not thy covenant with us.
10. Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles, that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers?
11. Are not thou He, O Lord our God.
12. Therefore, we will wait upon thee, for thou has made all these things.” (Jer. 14:19-22).

These points will be discussed through the next few days.
