13th.: Be Thankful
Ten lepers yelled out to Jesus,
“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” (Luke 17:13b).
They knew Jesus could heal them.
Jesus answered them, “Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass that as they went, they were cleansed.” (Luke 17:14).
Jesus told them to present themselves to the Jewish priests, as taught in Lev. 14.
As they started walking, their skin immediately healed up - like what is seen only in the movies.
‘”And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and he fell down on his face at his [Jesus’] feet, giving thanks, and he was a Samaritan.’ And Jesus answering said, ‘Were there not ten cleansed, but where are the nine?’” (Luke 17:15-17).
The others did not give thanks,
even when they heard the one giving thanks.
Jesus links ‘being unthankful’ to ‘being evil’ (see Luke 6:35d).
In 2 Tim. 3:2, the apostle reiterated linking unthankful to evil.
To not give thanks may simply be, because they were not taught good manners.
But it can also indicate a feeling of entitlement.
There can really be any number of reasons.
When God (or someone else for that matter) is nice to us, be sure to give Him (them) thanks.
“Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name.” (1st Chr. 16:8a)
