12th.: God heard Hagar’s plight
God promised Abram many descendants (Gen. 15:5).
However, Sarai, Abram’s wife, doubted.
She decided to help God.
She suggested that Abram use Sarai's maid, Hagar as a surrogate mom (Gen. 16:1-4).
Hagar became pregnant with a son for Abram.
Hagar then despised Sarai (Hagar could get pregnant, Sarai could not – Gen. 16:5).
Sarai got even by treating Hagar harshly (Gen. 16:6).
Hagar ran away.
God’s special messenger, the Angel of the Lord, met Hagar.
When the angel of the Lord asked Hagar what she was doing, she replied,
“I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.” (Gen. 16:8). The angel of the Lord told her that:
1. He had heard her frustrations.
2. She had to go back and submit to Sarai, even though Sarai treated her poorly (Gen. 16:9).
3. What would become of her child, and his descendants (Gen. 16:11-12).
4. She was also to name her son Ishmael, to remind her that God is a God who hears.
Reluctantly, Hagar obeyed.
Nevertheless, Hagar very much appreciated that God cared for her.
As a result, she named the well of water where she met the angel of the Lord,
Beer-la-hai-roi (Gen. 16:14), which means “The well of him that lives and sees me.”
Hagar stayed with Sarai and Abram for another 14 years or so.
Likewise, we can cast our concerns to God.
Return to Home“… casting all your care upon Him, for he cares for you.” (1st Pet. 5:7)
