10th: Joshua’s Access to God

God appointed Joshua to succeed Moses (Num. 27:18).
However, Joshua did not have the same status as Moses.

Therefore, God instructed Moses,
“… thou shalt put some of thine honor upon him, that the children of Israel may be obedient.” (Num. 27:20).
Joshua was not given the status of a prophet, “whom the Lord knew face to face” (Deut. 34:10b).
Nor was Joshua made to be a regular prophet who received the ‘word of the Lord’, like Elijah, Elisha, Samuel, etc.

Joshua was simply appointed to be a civil/military leader (although he did make one prophecy in Josh. 6:26).
Nevertheless, God gave Joshua the means to ask for divine help,
“And he [Joshua] shall stand before Eleazär the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgement of the Urim, before the Lord.” (Num. 27:21a).

In other entries of this devotional, we shall see that Joshua sometimes sought the Lord and thrived.
On the other hand, Joshua sometimes did not seek the Lord, to his own chagrin.

God has granted access to Himself, to all who genuinely come to Him,
through him [Jesus] we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” (Eph. 2:18).
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Heb. 4:16).

We have access to God, to get His favor to help us with whatever we need, whether it be wisdom, loneliness, or just plain, good ole, supernatural help for anything that is going on in our lives, and/or find what direction He wants us to take. Not to do so, will lead to chagrin as well.
